Join STEM Scouts for the 2022-2023 School Year!
/Do you have a child interested in STEM? STEM Scouts Lab 314 was a great success this year and is preparing for next year!
What is STEM Scouts? This is a new BSA program that is being trialed in a few regions and we are lucky enough to be in one of those areas. There are 5 different modules that cover different STEM topics. This year we explored Biology, Chemistry, Archeology, Engineering, and Aerodynamics. The kids learn a bit about the topic at hand and then conduct experiments that relate to the subject. The hands-on activities are interesting and engaging.
Your child will have a blast learning about biomes, building prosthetic legs and water filtration systems, flying gliders, experimenting with bubbles, and digging up artifacts. The Lab starts in the first week of school with registration opening in July.
Who can join? After a successful first year with grades 3-5, we are adding a Lab for 6-8 graders.
When and where is STEM Scouts? We meet on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00PM at Crossfield ES, starting the first week of school in August.
How much does it cost? Your membership dues cover nearly everything needed for the activities, you might need to bring in some grass, dirt, or coffee grinds for an activity or two. While we don't know exactly what dues will be for next year yet, the dues for 2021/2022 were $250 for the entire year. Parents are responsible for field trip costs, if they wanted to attend.
Questions? If you’re interested, email stemlab314@gmail.com and we’ll send an email about registration when it opens up in June/July.
