Odyssey of the Mind
It is time to register for the Odyssey of the Mind adventure that begins in November!
Odyssey of the Mind is an international program that provides an opportunity for kids to creatively solve problems as a team by thinking “out of the box.” Teams of up to seven students will be formed in early November, and all student registrations must be submitted by Oct. 31. Each team chooses one of five competitive problems to solve, brainstorms ideas, works on design, and builds a complete project. The problems appeal to a wide range of interests: some are technical and others are artistic or performance-oriented. Teams will work under the guidance of an adult coach throughout the school year. On March 31, 2012, teams will present their solutions at the annual regional tournament.

If you feel your child might benefit from Odyssey of the Mind and want to learn more, please come to the Odyssey of the Mind Information Session on Oct. 18th from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Fox Mill cafeteria. Click here to open the registration form to register your child for the Odyssey of the Mind 2011-2012 program. There is a $25 registration fee for each student to participate in the program.
The Odyssey of the Mind program relies on parent volunteers to coach students and to act as judges on tournament day. Training and resources are available for those who are interested in participating in this highly rewarding experience. There is a lot of interest from students to participate in this fun and educational program, so please consider volunteering. We cannot do it without your help and your child will thank you for doing it! Training for coaches will be provided on Nov. 12 at Langston Hughes Middle School in Reston.
