Annual Matsuri in Early May

Thank you to all the parent volunteers, Matsuri chairs, JCC chairs, and teachers and staff for a successful 7th Annual Matsuri on May 4, 2012.
About the Annual Japanese Festival
The annual Fox Mill Japanese Festival is held in early May each year. Open to the whole school, this PTA-sponsored event showcases traditional Japanese games, crafts, food, music, culture, and traditions. The event ties in to Children’s Day, an important family holiday in Japan when families celebrate the healthy growth and happiness of children. Children’s Day is celebrated in Japan every year on May 5.
Festival activities include a performance of traditional Japanese songs by Fox Mill’s 1st grade Japanese immersion students, martial arts presentations, and karaoke sing-along. Children have an opportunity to dress in kimono, learn to make origami, and play traditional Japanese festival games. Participants can also sample common Japanese foods such as mochi (pounded rice) and onigiri (rice ball). Japanese food can be pre-ordered at additional cost prior to the festival. The evening ends with everyone participating in a traditional folk dance called bon odori.
Custom designed t-shirts are sold by pre-order prior to the festival.
The Matsuri is organized the the Japanese Cultural Committee (JCC) of the Fox Mill PTA. Click here to learn more about the JCC.
